Peel Regional Police said they received a call around 7 a.m. at a strip plaza on Dundas Street West, near Winston Churchill Boulevard.

Police said employees of a roofing company had just arrived for work when they opened a shipping container and a propane tank exploded.

“Our understanding right now is basically when they opened the door of the container the explosion happened at that point,” Const. Harinder Sohi said.

“It was a roofing company that was working on the plaza here and their equipment was stored in that container.”

Peel Paramedics said three people were taken to hospital with serious injuries and a fourth suffered minor injuries. Authorities said the injuries consisted of mainly burns.

Police said there was no threat to public safety.
