History
Shepherd was elected as MLA for the riding in 2015 when he defeated long-time Liberal MLA Laurie Blakeman. During his term, he has served as chair of the Legislature’s Standing Committee on Legislative Offices and the Select Special Auditor General Search Committee. Shepherd has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.

The riding, situated in the city’s core, is the oldest riding in Edmonton. It was created in 1957. The riding was held by the Liberals from 1993 to 2015. Blakeman had held the seat from 1997 to 2015.
