One person is dead following a two-vehicle collision on Highway 5 roughly 15 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
Emergency services were called to the crash between a five-tonne transport truck and a car around noon on Thursday.
Saskatoon RCMP said their initial investigation showed the eastbound Ford Taurus collided head-on with the truck heading west. Both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch.
The man driving the car was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age have not been released at this time.
The Saskatoon Fire Department said the car was heavily damaged as a result of the collision, and the lone passenger required extrication from the smoking vehicle.
Firefighters stabilized and de-energized the car before removing the entire roof and a side door in order to get the injured woman out. She was flown by STARS air ambulance to Royal University Hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the transport truck didn’t suffer any visible injuries.
The highway was closed for over six hours while a forensic reconstructionist investigated.
