5 people, including 2 children, in hospital after crash near Mount Forest: OPP

Wellington County OPP say five people are in hospital, including two children, following a crash north of Guelph on Monday morning.

Police said the head-on crash happened on Concession Road 6, south of Highway 89, which is just east of Mount Forest.

Two men were in one vehicle and a woman with two toddlers was in the other vehicle when the crash happened.

Const. Josh Cunningham said an elderly man suffered life-threatening injuries in the collision and was taken to a trauma centre.

The four others were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said it’s too early to say what caused the crash.

“One of the factors that we’re looking at is road conditions,” Cunningham said. “We see snow and a little bit of moisture on the road.”

He added that one vehicle had snow tires and the other had all-season tires.

“We’re not saying that was a catalyst,” Cunningham said. “It’s just a reminder that if you have winter tires, that you’re best to have them on.”
