TORONTO – Recording artist Lights is showing her support for World Vision by speaking and performing on this year’s 30 Hour Famine webcast.
Lights, who won Best New Artist at the 2009 JUNO Awards, recently visited the Philippines to see first-hand the work World Vision is doing.
“It’s important for us to understand how fortunate we actually are. Because every day there are kids going without the basics” said the singer, whose real name is Valerie Poxleitner, in a release.

The 30 Hour Famine encourages young people to support more than a dozen of the charitable organization’s projects by going without something they enjoy for 30 hours.
“The Famine gives us the chance to feel what it’s like for these kids, what it feels like to be hungry,” added Lights, who has been involved with the initiative for four years. “The Famine actually lets us do something to help these kids in need.”
The live cast takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on April 12.
Lights, 25, is releasing Siberia Acoustic on April 30 and has a string of shows scheduled in both the U.S. and Canada.
