Property owner gets $10,000 water bill after pipe breaks while on vacation

Imagine being away for the winter, then coming home to find your house flooded after two months of gushing water — and a water bill for more than 10-thousand dollars.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

That’s what happened to a property owner in Bayham in southwestern Ontario.

Bayham Mayor Paul Ens says the pipe was broken past the meter so the flow of almost four thousand cubic metres of water was chargeable.

The property owner will be facing monthly payments of more than 865-dollars for the next year to pay off the massive bill.
