Man shot, killed in southeast Calgary community of Penbrooke Meadows

The Calgary police homicide unit is investigating a fatal shooting in the southeast Calgary community of Penbrooke Meadows.

Police said at around 6:30 a.m. they were called to a home in the 200-block of Pensville Close S.E. for a report that a man had been shot.

The man was declared dead at the scene, EMS said.

The general public is not at risk, according to authorities.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday.

Police officers remained on scene throughout Wednesday morning and into the afternoon. A nearby school kept its students indoors during the investigation as a precautionary measure, a Calgary Board of Education spokesperson said.

Brent Garrow lives nearby and hopes authorities catch whoever is responsible.

“It’s surprising that it was right across the way, but it happens,” Garrow said.

“I’ve grown up in Calgary and seen it change from a nice friendly city of 250,000 people up to one-million-plus and crime, as you get that many people, it just kind of escalates.”

Anyone with any information regarding the shooting is asked to call Calgary Police or Crime Stoppers.
