HALIFAX – Halifax Mooseheads forward Jonathan Drouin won three awards presented by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Wednesday night. He was presented with the Michael Bossy trophy as the best professional prospect, the Paul Dumont trophy as Personality of the year and the Michel Briere trophy as the most valuable player.
“It’s an honour and he’s pretty proud about it,” he says.
Drouin has been a star player for the team all season. He averaged more than two points per game this season, collecting 105 points in just 49 games. He finished second in the QMJHL scoring race and was named First Team All Star Left Winger.

Drouin and his Halifax Mooseheads teammates face the Gatineau Olympiques in the second round of the playoffs coming up. Gatineau was seeded thirteenth entering the playoffs, but they upset fourth seed Rimouski in the opening round. Drouin says that’s reason for concern.
“They finished thirteenth, but you can’t really take them lightly. They have a really good team and a really good coach and I think we’re going to have to step up our game.”
The Mooseheads swept Saint John in the opening round in four straight, outscoring the Sea Dogs 23-4. In that series the Mooseheads opened with an 11-1 romp and seemed to be on a mission. Drouin says “for sure” that’s the way his team has to approach the series against the Olympiques.
Drouin had ten points in the first four playoff games. His stickhanlding abilities draw raves from Mooseheads fans. “I don’t know, I think it just came when I started playing hockey.” He adds, “even though maybe I had it, I still worked on it a lot in the Summer and I think that’s where I kind of made it better.”
The Mooseheads host Gatineau Friday and Saturday nights at the Halifax Metro Centre in the first two games of their playoff series.
