At around 3 a.m. Calgary police said a patrol car came across an older-model Oldsmobile on fire in the 6400 block of 130 Avenue and McIvor Blvd. S.E.

“The vehicle had been travelling at a high rate of speed [north] on McIvor Blvd. S.E. towards a bend in the road with 130 Avenue,” a police news release said Friday.  “It struck two barriers, continued northbound and was launched approximately 20 metres, striking a power pole. The vehicle caught on fire at contact.”

Calgary fire said when firefighters doused the flames, a man’s body was found inside the vehicle.

“Alcohol and speed are considered to be factors,” police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call them at 403-567-4000 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers online or 1-800-222-8477.
