Toronto police said they responded to a call just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in the area of Jane Street and Weston Road.

Officers arrived and found a man in the driver’s seat of a white-coloured vehicle with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they are looking for a suspect vehicle described as light coloured, possibly a newer model light blue SUV.

“The white vehicle was southbound on Weston Road and the suspect vehicle was northbound at the time,” Det. Sgt. Mike Patterson told reporters at the scene.

Investigators said there was a passenger inside the victim’s vehicle at the time of the shooting but the person was not injured.

Police said they have spoken to a number of witnesses and are looking for others to come forward.

“The amount of traffic in the area. It’s first thing in the morning, I’m sure there was a lot of people that may have dash cams, cellphone video, anything like that,” Patterson said.

Police have not released any information about possible suspects. The homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

This is the second fatal shooting in the city in the past eight hours. A man in his 30s was shot and killed on Danforth Avenue near Jones Avenue at 2 a.m. in Greektown.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.
