An investigation is underway after a contractor died at Fredericton’s north-end water treatment facility, according to the city.
In a news release on Thursday at 2:45 p.m., city of Fredericton spokesperson Mike Baldwin confirmed there was an incident at the plant.
Less than two hours later, Baldwin announced that a contractor had died.
“We are deeply saddened to confirm there has been a fatality,” Baldwin stated in the press release at 4:35 p.m.
The investigation has now been turned over to WorkSafeNB.
WorkSafeNB says a Stop Work Order was issued at 1 p.m., and there will be a mandatory coroner’s inquest on the incident.
“WorkSafeNB conducts its investigations to determine how the accident happened to prevent similar incidents from reoccurring, and to determine if there were violations to the OHS Act,” WorkSafeNB said in a statement to Global News.
