OPP charged a man from Halifax, N.S., after they say he crashed his car on Highway 401, and allegedly assaulted bystanders and a police officer trying to help him.
On July 10, around 8:40 p.m., OPP say they received several calls about a car driving erratically on the highway. At one point, the car collided into the median on Highway 401 in the eastbound lanes near Front of Yonge Township, Ont.
Police say the driver then got out of the car and accosted people who had stopped to help him. Police also say the man tried to enter other people’s vehicles before he gave up and began running down the highway.
According to a police press release, when an OPP officer arrived, he was injured during an attempt to apprehend the driver. Police say the driver was arrested after bystanders stepped in to help. He was eventually restrained and taken to a hospital in Brockville, Ont., for assessment.
The officer received minor injuries from the altercation.
Paul Oldham, 39, was charged with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, dangerous driving, and impaired driving. He is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville on Aug. 3.
