Environment Canada issued a pair of weather warnings on Sunday afternoon, with the threat of a severe thunderstorm and a tornado looming in the forecast.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for London, Komoka, Parkhill and Strathroy, as well as eastern and western Middlesex Counties.
Meteorologists with the national weather agency are tracking a thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, nickel-sized hail and heavy rain.
A tornado warning is in effect for Southwestern Ontario, more specifically near Chatham-Kent and St. Thomas.
According to Environment Canada, eye witnesses spotted a funnel cloud located about four to five kilometres south of Highway 401 in the Chatham-Kent area.
This funnel cloud was reportedly moving eastbound with a thunderstorm towards Victoria Road and West Lorne.
Environment Canada confirmed there are scattered storms approaching eastern Elgin County and the area south of London.
The weather agency said damaging winds may be associated with these storms, along with the risk of a tornado.
Environment Canada advises people to go indoors at the sight or sound of threatening weather.
