Firefighters battle blaze at Riverview Hutterite Colony storage barn

A fire at a storage barn at the Riverview Hutterite Colony forced the evacuation of at least 20 people from nearby homes. Julien Fournier / Global News

It took firefighters over 90 minutes to bring a fire under control at the Riverview Hutterite Colony northeast of Saskatoon.

Calls came into the Saskatoon Fire Department at around 11 a.m. CT reporting a storage barn at the colony was on fire.

Five crews with seven trucks, including two water tankers – responded.

It was brought under control just after 12:30 p.m.

No injuries have been reported, but at least 20 people had to be evacuated from nearby homes on the colony.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
