Montreal firefighters are at the scene of a second major fire in downtown Montreal Friday evening.
Montreal police told Global News the fire is at a McGill University medical faculty building on Dr. Penfield Avenue.
The four-alarm blaze started shortly after 8 p.m.
The fire department is asking residents to avoid the area.
Second fire in the same night
Earlier Friday evening, two people were taken to hospital after a five-alarm fire forced a flurry of street closures and building evacuations in downtown Montreal.
The blaze, which is now under control, was at a high-rise building near the intersection of McGill College and de Maisonneuve streets.
There is no information on how severe the injuries were.
Ian Ritchie, a chief with the Montreal fire department, said about 120 firefighters are at the scene. The cause of the fire is unknown.
First responders were first called to the scene on Friday evening around 5 p.m.
Firefighters warned they may have to cut power in the area.
Montreal police are asking people to avoid the area near Ste-Catherine, Metcalfe, Robert-Bourassa and President Kennedy streets.
The Eaton Centre and the BNP Paribas buildings are also closed.
The STM, the city’s public transit authority, says the building on de Maisonneuve Boulevard to the McGill Metro station is closed until further notice but that service is normal.
