Kingston police have charged three men after a man fell off a car while body-surfing on its roof in late May.

Police say a 23-year-old Kingston man is still suffering from serious head injuries after the May 28 incident.

The victim and the three accused were employees at a downtown restaurant and were allegedly drinking and socializing at the restaurant the night before the incident, according to a police press release.

The release says two of the accused, a 22-year-old and 23-year-old man, were driving in the car, and another accused, 18, was allegedly skateboarding behind the car while holding on from behind — all while the victim was body-surfing on top of the car.

Police say the victim fell off the roof and struck his head near Brock Street towards Division Street. The press release says the skateboarder checked on the victim and then allegedly fled in the vehicle with the other two men.

Police say that all three accused returned to the scene once police and Frontenac Paramedics arrived and provided statements, however, the information was later determined to be allegedly false and misleading.

The 18-year-old was arrested on June 13, and the 23-year-old was arrested on July 4. Both were charged with accessory to criminal negligence and obstructing police.

On July 5, the 22-year-old was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, leaving an accident scene and failure to assist. Police released this information on Thursday.
