A Peterborough man has claimed the top prize of $1,000 a day for life in the OLG’s Daily Grand Draw on June 25.
However, John Wedlock has opted for the lump-sum prize of $7 million instead.
“I enjoy playing Daily Grand, Lotto 6/49, Lotto Max and Lottario,” said Wedlock at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto. “I happened to be at the store just before the Daily Grand draw, so I bought a ticket.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Chemong Road.
His wife noticed an article stated a winner was from Peterborough and Wedlock said he laughed it off.
“I went to the store to check my ticket a few days later and it turns out that I was the big winner!” he said. “I laughed when I saw the words ‘$1,000 a day for life’ on the validation slip.”
Wedlock, 59, the father of two boys, said he couldn’t wait to share the winning moment with his wife.
“She had tears in her eyes when I told her the life-changing news,” he said. “It took a bit of convincing even after showing her the validation slip.”
Wedlock didn’t state any plans for his winnings.
“This win gives us the freedom to take many routes in our life,” he said. “I’m at a loss for words.”
Daily Grand is a $3 ticket to match five numbers plus the grand number to win $1,000 a day for life. The odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 13.34 million.
