Two Edmonton Eskimos named CFL top performers

A blistering start to the season statistically has earned two Edmonton Eskimos the nod as CFL performers of the month for June.

Both quarterback Mike Reilly and receiver Duke Williams were named Wednesday, along with Hamilton quarterback and former Eskimo Jeremiah Masoli as the CFL’s best in June.

Masoli leads the CFL in passing through the first three games with 1,045 yards – 25 yards ahead of Reilly. The Eskimos quarterback is tied for the league lead in TD passes with six, and rushing TDs with four.

The six-year starter for the Eskimos has moved past Dave Dickensen into 23rd spot all-time in passing yards and Reilly is poised to move into the Top 20 later this season.

Williams leads the league in receiving yards with 308 – nine ahead of teammate Derel Walker. The 25-year-old from Los Angeles in his second CFL season and is also tied for first with three receptions of 30 yards or more, including touchdowns of 88 and 64 yards.

The Eskimos will travel to Toronto this weekend to play the Argos on Saturday. Coverage begins on 630 CHED at 2 p.m. with the kickoff at 3:30 p.m.

The Eskimos added two players today in National defensive lineman Mark Mackie and International defensive back Brian Walker.  Mackie has been with the Eskimos during their last two training camps.  Walker played last season with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers recording 41 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, one interception, and one forced fumble.  He recorded three defensive tackles in a loss to the Eskimos in the West Semi-Final.
