A 10-year sworn member of the Barrie Police Service has been charged with domestic assault.
According to Barrie police, the officer was charged on June 27.
Police say the incident occurred while the officer was off-duty in 2016.
As a result of the recent complaint, Barrie police contacted the Ontario Provincial Police to conduct an investigation into the matter.
Barrie police say they will not be releasing any information regarding the specifics of the allegations, and will not be naming the officer involved in order to protect the identity of the victim.
“These allegations are not reflective of our membership. Our sworn and civilian members continue to deliver quality service to our community,” Barrie Police Chief Kimberly Greenwood said in a statement.
Police say the officer has been suspended with pay in accordance with the Police Services Act and will appear in court at a later date.
