A Peterborough e-bike rider faces several charges, including impaired driving, following a crash last week.

Police say early Wednesday morning, an officer saw a man lose control of his e-bike and crash in the area of Sherbrooke Street.

“While speaking with the driver of the e-bike the officer noted an odour of alcohol coming from the man’s breath,” police said.

Police say a breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

The man was arrested and charged. While in custody at the police station, police allege the man damaged a holding cell.

Justin Allan Hartley, 37, of McDonnel Street, is charged with driving with more than 80mgs of alcohol in blood, impaired driving and mischief under $5,000.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 19.
