HTC One X…simply gorgeous! Check out my Global Monday Morning News Tech Talk segment on these newest Android and Windows phones: http://www.globaltvedmonton.com/video/apr+30++tech+talk/video.html?v=2228761325&p=1&s=dd#video
Well folks, there are two new smartphones in Canada with
bigger and better features. The HTC One X, $169.99 running on the newest Android
Ice Cream Sandwich OS and the Nokia Lumia 900 runing on Windows Phone 7.5,
$99.99, both from Rogers on a 3-year plan. Both are LTE network compatible with
faster-than-home connection speeds, but sadly, not in Edmonton yet…soon, they
say.
What is special about them? You can get all the details from
www.rogers.com but here is what makes them
front runners in the Andoid scene:
The HTC One X is unquestionably the best looking classy
phone with the sharpest iPhone-like retina display (312 points per inch on a
huge 4.7-inch display versus the iPhone’s 330 ppi on a 3.5-inch screen) It
features a gently curved one-piece polycarbonate shell making it easy to hold
despite its size. It also rules in
picture taking beating out the iPhone4s in 8 megapixel photos in start-up time,
speed and response so you never miss a shot. It has the best picture quality in normal
light than ANY camera phone. But in dark places, if it wasn’t for the included
LED flash (lacking from the iPhone4s) in 1080p video and still pictures, it
would lag behind the iPhone4s in dark scene pictures. The One X has a huge
selection of special picture effects before and after a picture is taken. Its top
camera feature, professionally speaking, is HDR mode which makes any picture
scene with bad uneven lighting just look great. Check out the two pictures below, taken in New York launch of the HTC One family. The picture on the left has taken normally while the next picture on the right was taken with HDR on. Note how much better the church looks and how the sky is darker.
HTC One X on normal mode, left, and with HDR on, right. The audio system, Beats By Dr.
Dre Audio sounds better than most phones on stereo speakers but comes through
even better when using headphones. HTC includes smart Sync Manager for
automatically transferring songs/playists from a PC and Music Hub for
organizing music services and apps in one location. The new Android Ice Cream
Sandwich is nice and makes older Andorid OS phones look so old time!
Nokia’s Lumia 900 Windows Phone is selling out in US The Nokia Lumia 900 is enjoying success in the
US, having sold out in many store locations. I think the more folks get exposed
to the simple Windows Phone 7.5 the more will consider buying it, especially
Windows PC users. The Lumia 900 also has a one-piece polycarbonate shell but
with sharper corners. It’s not as sharp as the One X but the screen shows nice,
especially photos. The Nokia Lumia Windows phones have one up on other Windows
Phone brands: Nokia users have special access to additional edgy Nokia apps like
free downloadable maps of any country with voice directions for driving of
walking. This sweet deal between Nokia and Microsoft makes for a great travel
phone which can have its data radio turned off when you travel abroad and work
off its built-in GPS navigation, compared to running Google Maps in roaming
mode. The 8MP camera with Carl Zeiss
optics has powerful dual LED flash, and you can upload pictures instantly to
your social networks or to the cloud through Microsoft’s free 16 GB SkyDrive
service. Once Windows 8 is out this fall, its entire PC, Tablet, Smartphone world
will finally gel, offering a realistic alternative to Apple’s eco system
