Five new pedestrian crossovers around Guelph are scheduled to be installed in July, the city announced on Friday.
The five locations were identified in last fall for the “Level 2 Pedestrian Crossovers” that would give pedestrians right-of-way over vehicles.
The crossings feature signs, pavement markers, and in some cases, flashing lights triggered by someone pushing a button.
The five locations for the new crossovers are:
- Grange Road at Kearney Street
- Grange Road at Auden Road and Schroder Crescent
- Waterloo Avenue west of Beachwood Avenue
- Ironwood Road east of Reid Court
- Woodlawn Road at Atto Drive

The installations will roll out during the week of July 30 and continue for three weeks, weather permitting. The city said lane reductions and traffic delays are expected in some of those locations.
The crossovers on Waterloo Avenue and both on Grange Road will feature flashing lights, while the other three will only have pavement markings and signs.
The cost of the installations is pegged at $84,000, but to expand the program would require between $50,000 and $100,000 annually.
According to a report when the crossovers were first identified, the city plans on rolling out an education campaign to create awareness and educate the public on how to use the new crossovers.
Drivers and cyclists are reminded to wait until pedestrians have completely crossed the road at pedestrian crossovers.
