Biggar RCMP chase ends with capture of man wanted for assault

RCMP said tips from the public helped them catch a man wanted for an assault in western Saskatchewan.

Travis Stehr, 31, was charged on June 11 with assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after an incident in the RM of Bigger on June 4.

He was also wanted on outstanding warrants on a number of charges dating back to September 2017.

Biggar RCMP said they received a tip early Monday afternoon stating Stehr was still in the rural municipality.

Officers located his vehicle but the driver took off when police tried to stop him.

A brief chase ensued, which ended roughly 1.5 kilometres west of Landis near Highway 14.

Stehr was tracked to a nearby wooded area and arrested.

Along with his previous charges, Stehr is facing seven new charges including possession of property obtained by crime and operation of a motor vehicle while being pursued by police.

Stehr made his first court appearance on Tuesday and will be back in North Battleford provincial court on Thursday.
