One of Nova Scotia’s most popular provincial parks is set to receive a much needed facelift, coming months after a winter storm destroyed the road that runs through it.
Nova Scotia’s department of transportation and infrastructure renewal announced its plans on Wednesday to close the Queensland Beach Provincial Park starting Thursday, as they carry out road construction and parking lot improvements.
Conrads Road was left in shambles after a severe winter storm destroyed the road that runs through the park.

Bob McDonald, a cottage owner in the area, told Global News earlier this month that the asphalt road was “an accident waiting to happen” for pedestrians trying to navigate their way to the beach.
Now as construction gets underway, both the road and beach will be closed to vehicles and pedestrians.
Extensive changes to the park are planned, according to a spokesperson for the transportation department.
The entire alignment of Conrads Road is changing, with the new path set to run along the lake.

The parking area will also be moved, shifting to a space between the road and a newly raised and reinforced rock berm.
The park will remain closed as repairs are carried out. The province says the park should reopen on June 30.
