Man dies in climbing incident at Tunnel Mountain

A 26-year-old man has died after he fell while climbing along the Le Soulier rock face on Banff’s Tunnel Mountain.

RCMP said the man stumbled and fell approximately 25-40 metres.

It happened shortly after noon of Friday.

A second climber had to be rescued from a nearby location after becoming stranded.

STARS Air Ambulance was originally called Friday morning to Tunnel Mountain but was later stood down.

An RCMP spokesperson said a man was declared dead at the scene.

Police, along with Parks Canada staff, were dispatched to help with the recovery of the man’s body.

Police said the victim was from Banff, but his name was not released.
