A two-alarm fire damaged three homes in the northeast community of Martindale on Monday.
Calgary Fire acting district chief Jason Graham said the call came in around 6:10 a.m. for reports of a house fire on Martindale Drive N.E.
Upon arrival, a second alarm was called to deal with the large volume of smoke and flames, he said.
Seven adults and nine children escaped the blaze and nobody was injured, he added.
Another resident was woken up by a commotion outside his home.

“I heard the bell ringing over and over, so by the time I came to open the door, the ladies were screaming there ‘was a fire in the house,'” he said. “So I came outside and the fire was on that house. Our house was OK, there was no fire or nothing. But I could see the fire was pushing this way trying to catch on this house. I quickly ran and got my wife and son and we got out.”
Graham credits the quick response of fire crews for knocking down the fire quickly.
A total of 12 fire vehicles were brought in to fight the fire.
Calgary fire said investigators are on the scene.
