Playoff fever has hit Peterborough with two major Toronto franchises — the Maple Leafs and the Raptors — in the running. As a result, Peterborough bars say they are benefiting.

“It’s definitely been a lot busier. We always have a fun atmosphere here for sure but with the two teams, we’ve seen a lot more business for sure,” said Lilly Hayes, a server at One Eighty Sports pub.

“We always support the bars pretty good but come game night, we spend a little more,” said sports fan, Dave Gerolamy.

While many like to support the local bars, others like to enjoy the games from the comfort of their own home. Gerolamy said a friend wouldn’t leave home to join his friends at the pub.

“He couldn’t be here with us tonight because he won’t leave his house during the Raptors’ games. He has to put his jersey on and he has to watch it on a certain TV every night,” said Gerolamy.

“I’m a goalie, I have lots of superstitions. I only pee twice on game day, and drink at least 12 Export,” said Hunt.

It’s the second time in the past 16 years that both the Toronto Raptors and the Toronto Maple Leafs have made the playoffs in the same season, so servers say they are looking forward to making a little extra cash this year.
