The Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority issued a statement Thursday warning residents of an onslaught of rain and the potential for an ice storm coming to the Kingston area over the next four days.
The conservation authority says that forecasts are calling for 70 to 90 mm of precipitation between Thursday and Monday.
Environment Canada has also issued an alert for a potential ice storm on Saturday and Sunday in the Cataraqui Region.
Ice accumulation could exceed 20 mm, according to the Canadian weather service.
The environmental agency says that the ice storm could appear due to a slow-moving low-pressure system in the area. Northeasterly winds could draw colder air from an arctic high-pressure system from the north, resulting in a changeover from rain to freezing rain or ice pellets.
Apparently, Sunday will be the day most likely to see freezing rain in the Kingston area.
High winds reaching up to 60 km/h are also expected in the region and Environment Canada warns of the potential for power outages due to falling trees.
