There’s another high-profile candidate in the race to be Burlington’s mayor for the next four years.
Marianne Meed Ward, who has served as Ward 2 councillor for the past eight years, has announced she’s eyeing the top job this fall.
She made the announcement Wednesday morning in Aldershot, backed by a few dozen supporters.

Registration for candidates doesn’t open until May 1, but current Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring has signalled plans to seek re-election and former Burlington MP Mike Wallace has also announced his intention to run for mayor.

Meed Ward suggests there’s a need to ensure that the voices of residents are heard at city hall, pointing to a leadership vacuum that she says is currently being filled by private interests.
