Police say part of Highway 400 near Barrie has reopened after emergency crews responded to a series of crashes involving up to 50 vehicles.
“At the time … (there were) whiteout conditions and changing very rapidly, so drivers I think were taken by surprise,” OPP Insp. Laurie Taylor-Bolton told Global News Wednesday evening.
“Very fortunately there were only four people with minor injuries that were taken to hospital and it’s taken us quite a while to clean things up and talk to all the drivers.”

The southbound lanes of Highway 400 at Duckworth Street were closed for more than two hours.
Just before 6 p.m., police announced the highway reopened. However, police warned drivers to expect residual delays.
Taylor-Bolton said the investigation is still ongoing.
