High winds knock out hydro for Alectra Utilities customers in Hamilton

Thousands of residents and businesses in the Hamilton area remain in the dark this afternoon.

Alectra Utilities says high winds have knocked out the hydro to 55-hundred customers in Stoney Creek from Trinity Church Road to Upper Centennial and from King Street West to Rymal Road West.

Crews are working on a power outage that is affecting 559 customers in the area bounded by Upper James to Upper Wentworth and from Concession Street to Brucedale.

More than 25-hundred Alectra customers are without power in the Barton to King and Parkdale to Lake Avenue area of Hamilton.

Nearly 36-hundred residents and businesses are in the dark in Winona, from Glover Road to Fifty Road and Ridge Road to Lake Ontario.

Alectra says the power is expected to be restored by 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The power is back on for about 350 residents and businesses along Barton Street, just west of the Red Hill Valley Parkway.

Hamilton remains under a wind warning, with gusts approaching 90 km/h.
