Prince Albert police focus on impaired driving during busy weekend

Prince Albert police were kept busy this past weekend dealing with calls that included an impaired driving complaint.

Police said they responded to 243 service calls between Friday evening and Monday morning, with officers making 54 arrests, 30 of which were for public intoxication.

Impaired driving complaint

Patrol officers went to the 3000-block of Sherman Drive for an impaired driving complaint just after 7 p.m. CT on Friday. Officers located the vehicle travelling on 28th Street East and made a traffic stop.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Melfort, Sask., was arrested for impaired driving and exceeding .08. He was released and is scheduled to make his first Prince Albert provincial court appearance on April 18.

Check stops

Extra officers were on duty on St. Patrick’s Day, with check stops set up at two different locations in the city to catch impaired drivers.

Police issued one alcohol and gaming regulation ticket, seized four vehicles and charged a 41-year-old woman for impaired driving and exceeding .08.

She is scheduled to make her first court appearance on April 3.

Meth possession

Patrol officers pulled a vehicle over on River Street West and 3rd Avenue West for a Traffic Safety Act investigation at around 11 p.m. on March 17. Police arrested a 23-year-old man for prohibited driving.

Police said a passenger in the vehicle was also arrested after admitting to being in possession of meth. The Prince Albert woman, 20, was found to be in possession of 8.2 grams of meth.

She is facing a charge of meth possession and is scheduled to make her first Prince Albert provincial court appearance on April 3.
