Skookum Festival lineup: The Killers, Florence + the Machine, Metric to headline

October 2017: Catherine Urquhart reports on a huge three-day music festival being planned for next fall for Stanley Park.

The Killers are set to headline a roster of big acts at the Skookum Festival, a three-day event being held in Stanley Park from Sept. 7 to 9.

Other acts on the roster will include Florence + the Machine, Metric, Arkells, the War on Drugs, St. Vincent and Blue Rodeo.

The Skookum Festival is being produced by BrandLive, the company behind the defunct Squamish Music Festival, which was cancelled in 2016.

The event is expected to bring as many as 20,000 people to Stanley Park — along with concerns about transportation.

Back in October, when the festival was first announced, then-Vancouver Park Board manager of marketing and special events Octavio Silva said there would be a full event and management plan that would deal with matters such as transportation, waste management and protection of sensitive areas.

The Skookum Festival also comes after numerous major music events have been cancelled.

Last summer, the Pemberton Music Festival was cancelled after the organizers filed for bankruptcy.

The Skookum Festival promises more than just music.

There will also be live art, sculpture and multimedia installations.

Meanwhile, Vancouver restaurants and food trucks will be hosting pop-ups at the festival.

Participating food providers are expected to include Vij’s Railway Express, Mr. Bannock, Reel Mac and Cheese, Italian Kitchen and various breweries.
