Police briefly blocked off Carlton Street after the skywalk overhead was hit by a vehicle passing under it around noon Monday.
The driver of the truck told Global News he dropped off a bin at a nearby construction site and that the hoist was still raised when he was attempting to drive under the skywalk.
Officials could be seen assessing the damage.
A hole is visible on the north side of the skywalk, which connects the Delta Hotel to the RBC Convention Centre.
This is the same stretch of skywalk that had to be closed several times during 2015 and 2016 because of structural concerns and repairs.
The city has restricted traffic to one lane on Carlton. Drivers should stay to the furthest right lane when approaching St. Mary Ave.
