Vancouver police say speed appears to have been a factor in a single-vehicle crash that killed a 21-year-old UBC resident early Sunday morning.
A man was driving a Mercedes-Benz Car2go eastbound on West 16th Avenue near Discovery Street just before 1 a.m. when he lost control and crashed into a tree.

The driver died at the scene.
West 16th Avenue between Trimble Street and Courtenay Street was closed for much of Sunday morning and has since re-opened.
The incident marks Vancouver’s second fatal collision of 2018, according to police.
Last month, a 55-year-old man died was fatally hit by a pickup truck while walking in a marked crosswalk on Inverness St. at King Edward Ave.
