Just in time for Sunday’s Oscars, “Saturday Night Live” took a shot at the accusations rampant in Hollywood with their own version of the award show. “The Grabbies,” which was celebrating this year’s worst behavior in entertainment.
The skit featured entertainment reporter Cecily Strong on the red carpet with a rotating cast of male reporters who were replaced one-by-one after each one was caught in a scandal.
The pair talked to “Most open robe” nominee, Lenny Martin (played by SNL writer and cast member Pete Davidson), who told the crowd he was wearing “thin sweat pants with no underwear.”
When asked if he feels ashamed he replied: “You’d think so, but, nope!”
In an excerpt from his speech, he thanked the gun control debate in the media.
“Well, first, I’d like to thank guns for pivoting the national conversation away from harassment. I’d also like to thank my uncle for always saying, ‘Boys will be boys.’ Even when it was, like, O.J.,” Davidson said
There was also a “coveted” Cecil B. Molesting lifetime achievement award – parodying the Golden Globe’s Cecil B. DeMille award which was awarded to Oprah earlier this year.
Another nominee for best “non-apology” played by host Charles Barkley was wearing pins in support of a few causes – in real life, actors are expected to wear orange pins in support of gun control at the Oscars later Sunday and at the Golden Globes nominees wore all black in support of the Time’s up movement.
Barkely – who was playing an actor named “Tim Franklin” sported a “Tim’s up” pin instead of a Time’s up one– because his “name is Tim and he’s always up for anything.”
Instead of an “I’m with her” pin, he was wearing an “I’m with herpes” pin, which he joked his doctor gave him earlier that morning.
SNL also took on gun control and turmoil at the White House in the March 3 episode.
