Longtime Team Jennifer Jones second Jill Officer has decided to take a reduced role next season as she slowly moves away from competitive curling.
Officer will remain on Jennifer Jones’ St. Vital-based rink as an alternate.
She has played with Jones for 23 seasons starting when they were both juniors. Together, they’ve won seven Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts, six national titles, the 2008 World Women’s Curling Championship together and a 2014 Olympic gold medal.
“I’ve known for a while I would not play another quadrennial, so this was a decision that I’ve been considering for quite some time,” Officer said in a statement.
“I’ve had an absolutely amazing ride with this team so it wasn’t an easy decision, but at this point in time, it’s the right decision.”
Officer will be replaced in the fall by Jocelyn Peterman. The Albertan spent the last three seasons with Chelsea Carey‘s team. Peterman is both a national junior and women’s curling champion.
