Back in 2009, Cherylle Douglas created Oscar, the biggest sock monkey the world had ever seen, according to Guinness World Records.

But a British woman named Jody Lewis usurped her title in 2015.

“She broke my record, I’m proud of her for that,” Douglas said. “Records are meant to be broken.”

Enter Oscar II, who is made from 416 socks that were cut apart and stitched back together.

He measures more than four metres tall and weighs more than 50 kilograms.

“Everybody says, ‘What are you doing?’ They look at me like I’m a few feathers short of a load,” Douglas said.

She hopes to have a new world record confirmed by Guinness, leaving the ball squarely in Lewis’ court.

“We’ll see what she does now,” Douglas said. “She’ll have to go bigger than me.”
