North Vancouver RCMP arrest man after blocking Trans Canada Highway

A 26-year-old Agassiz man is in custody following an alleged firearms offense after police blocked Highway 1 at Westview Drive on Tuesday afternoon, the North Vancouver RCMP said.

Speaking to Global News, Const. Brett Cunningham said police were notified by their counterparts in Agassiz that a suspect was on his way to North Vancouver, and that he had allegedly stolen property and firearms for illegal sale.

“A search of the vehicle was conducted by officers on scene, and a number of firearms were located inside the vehicle,” he said.

“To ensure police and public safety, our officers were required to block several westbound lanes of Highway 1 during the arrest.”

In a release, Mounties said the man is known to police, and is being held in custody pending further investigation.
