Quincy Jones recently gave two very candid interviews in which he made some pretty out-there claims involving assassinated U.S. president John F. Kennedy and current presidential daughter Ivanka Trump.

Today, Jones has publicly apologized for “silly” things he said “to anyone whom [his] words offended.”

In a statement, he writes, “I have LEARNED MY LESSON! Let me tell you, I’m so grateful for my daughters because they aren’t scared to stand up to their daddy. I am an imperfect human & I’m not afraid to say it. And I’m sorry & I’m not afraid to say it.”

Jones said his six daughters took him aside for a “family intervention” after two recent interviews led to stories in the media, such as whether his friends, comedian Richard Pryor and actor Marlon Brando, slept together.

He blamed age, his giving up drinking three years ago, and memory issues for his interviews with Vulture and GQ recently.

Among other topics in the candid interviews, he said Michael Jackson stole music from other artists, he doesn’t want to see Oprah Winfrey ever become U.S. president, modern music lacks innovation, he’s not a fan of Taylor Swift’s music, and he once thought the Beatles were bad musicians.

“Even at 85, it’s apparent that ‘wordvomit’ and bad-mouthing is inexcusable,” Jones’ statement continued.

He said that his “bad-mouthing” contradicted messages he wanted to convey, about racism, inequality, homophobia and poverty. He also said he had already reached out to his friends to apologize privately.

Jones said, “One of the hardest things about the situation is that, this bad-mouthing has contradicted the very real messages I tried to relay about racism, inequality, homophobia, poverty… you name it. And of course I don’t want that.”

“But when you live a public life you have a responsibility to be an example & since I do live a public life I wanted to make a public apology,” he wrote.

“I am sorry to anyone to whom my words offended & I’m especially sorry to my friends who are still here with me & to those who aren’t,” he wrote. He thanked his friends and family for their “grace.”

“Thank you for calling me out when I’ve clearly made a mistake…many mistakes,” he said. “I hear ALL of you & I thank you.”

“I encourage you all to please grow with me & keep on keepin’ on. Love, an 85-year-old bow-legged man who is still learning from his mistakes,” Jones ended his statement.
