RCMP seek suspect in alleged roadside Highway 1 assault near Bassano

Bassano RCMP are seeking a male suspect after receiving reports of a woman being assaulted on the side of westbound Highway 1 near Duck Lake Road on Feb. 17 around 10:10 a.m.

Witnesses told police they saw a man assault a woman, described as being in her mid-30s with long blonde hair and wearing a light-coloured top or dress, then push her into the passenger side of a parked pickup truck.

The male suspect then got into the vehicle and drove away, police said in a news release.

The vehicle was last seen travelling north on Township Road 220.

Police began patrols of the area immediately after being contacted by witnesses.

The suspect vehicle is described as:

  • Late-model black extended-cab pickup truck
  • Chrome brush bar
  • Partial Saskatchewan licence plate of 4NY

The male suspect is described as:

  • Mid-40s
  • Average build
  • Moustache
  • Black jacket and blue jeans

Police are asking the public to help identify and locate the truck and its occupants. Anyone with information is asked to contact Bassano RCMP at 403-641-3684 or to anonymously contact Crime Stoppers.
