A woman says she has received death threats after a confrontation at a minor hockey game on Feb. 18. It happened at the Ingredion Centre in Cardinal.

The South Grenville Minor Hockey Association was hosting a novice C tournament. The altercation happened when the South Grenville Rangers faced off against the Brockville Braves.

Hank Carr was at the game.  His son plays for the Rangers, who ended up winning the game 7-6.

According to Carr, a parent with the Braves became upset when the clock continued to run even though the play had stopped.

“The mom just exploded. She was yelling at the referees that they were cheating. She was yelling at our players that they were cheating. She was making a scene in the stands,” said Carr.

According to Carr, the woman allegedly made her way to the timekeeper’s box and that’s when things got physical.

“Our timekeeper, who was a 16-year-old girl, got out. There was some pushing and shoving. The coaches for the other team said there had been some punches thrown, that our timekeeper had thrown punches,” said Carr.

A woman who claims to have been involved in the altercation says the timekeeper attacked her.

“She came out of the box and assaulted me,” claims the woman, identifying herself only as “Amanda.”

She says images of her speaking to police afterwards were shared more than 1,000 times in a now-deleted Facebook post, resulting in an online furor. She now claims to have received death threats and plans to sue those who made the posts online, as well as CKWS TV.

Carr says the incident left not only other parents upset but also the players.

“They were crying and we have a couple of girls on the team who were saying to their mothers ‘Were we cheating? Like she said we were cheating.  Were we cheating?’ And we had to say no.”

The South Grenville Minor Hockey Association declined to comment on the incident but in an email to CKWS News, president Rose Williams says, “We ask that you stay out of this matter and let the OPP do their job and not make the matter even worse.”

After investigating, police did not lay charges against Amanda, or the timekeeper who she says attacked her.
