Woman dead, child critical, after being struck by vehicle in mall parking lot

A 44 year-old woman is dead and a 5-year-old child is in hospital in critical condition after being injured Sunday, in the parking lot of a mall located near Côte-Vertu and Montpellier boulevards in Montreal’s Saint-Laurent borough.

Montreal spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils said it happened at around 11: 30 a.m. Witnesses told police the woman and child were hit as they were walking in front of a vehicle.

Both were rushed to hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. Police confirmed late Sunday afternoon that the woman had died of her injuries. The child remains in critical condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 90-year-old man, was not injured in the crash. The circumstances surrounding the collision are under investigation.

The vehicle has been towed and will undergo a mechanical inspection.
