Toronto transit officials say subway service has resumed between Jane and Kipling stations following a “deliberate act of vandalism” at Royal York station.
A signal issue was noticed by Toronto Transit Commission staff around 5:30 a.m., officials said.
Subway trains were then ordered to turn back at Jane station at 10 a.m. Friday following the morning rush hour.
TTC spokesperson Brad Ross said a deliberate act of vandalism to equipment in the tunnels near Royal York station impacted signals.

“Failsafe mechanisms were in place and working, allowing subways to operate safely through the area,” the TTC said in a statement.
“In order to accommodate the investigation, the TTC has shut down subway service on Line 2 between Kipling and Jane stations.”
Toronto police were called in to investigate the matter and full service resumed at noon.

Ross said 47 shuttle buses were placed in operation between Jane and Kipling to move transit users along the route during the disruption.
Commuters travelling to Toronto Pearson Airport were told to use the GO Lakeshore Line or the Union Pearson Express at no additional cost.
