UPDATE: Fatal crash involving semi closes Highway 97 A

One person is dead following a two vehicle crash in the North Okanagan involving a semi and an SUV.

The crash happened late Tuesday morning on Highway 97-A south of Pleasant Valley road.

RCMP say one of the three occupants in the SUV died as a result of the crash.

The surviving occupants in the SUV were rushed to hospital by air and by ambulance with undisclosed injuries.

The SUV has Alberta plates.

The driver of the semi wasn’t injured.

RCMP say road conditions may have played a factor in the crash.

The highway is expected to remain closed until 5 p.m. today.

ORIGINAL STORY

Investigators are currently on scene at Highway 97 A just south of Pleasant Valley cross road Spallmaucheen, where a collision has taken place between a semi truck and passenger vehicle.

Highway 97 A remains closed at this time and traffic is being diverted.

At least one person has been airlifted to hospital with unknown injuries.

Detour is available Northbound at Eagle Rock Road, and Southbound via Pleasant Valley Road.

Estimated time of opening is 5 p.m.
