Oakville has taken further action to protect the Glen Abbey golf course property against future development. Town council voted this week to designate the 93-hectare property as a “cultural heritage landscape.”
That is defined as a “geographical area that may have been modified by human activity and is identified as having cultural heritage value or interest by a community.”
The next step in the town’s battle to protect the land against development will be an Ontario Municipal Board hearing.
ClubLink, Glen Abbey’s owner, has appealed council’s previous decision to refuse its applications to redevelop the course.
It has proposed more than 3,200 residential units and 120,000 square feet of commercial space. An OMB pre-hearing is expected to take place in the spring.
