SPOILER ALERT: Do not read on unless you’ve watched the Bachelor Canada Season 3 finale.
On Wednesday’s season finale of the Bachelor Canada, Chris Leroux didn’t really pick anyone.
He did choose Toronto’s Mikaela Wightman but that was after Vancouver’s Lyndsey Gavin beat him to the punch and dumped him.
After Gavin asked Leroux if he could still see himself moving to Vancouver to be with her, he hesitated and she took notice. She made it clear that she had no intentions to move to Toronto from the beginning.

Gavin also revealed that she didn’t want to go into the proposal feeling unsure about Chris.
When Wightman sat down with Leroux, she asked him about his parents. Leroux told Wightman that his mom “said Lyndsey is one of the loveliest women she ever met. I mean, f**k, Mikaela.”
This took Wightman by surprise because Leroux called her the wrong name.
“Oh my god, that is the worst thing that ever happened in my entire life!” Wightman exclaimed.
She freaked out and eventually walked out on their conversation, and she said she felt like packing up and going home.

On what was supposed to be proposal day, Leroux claimed he had found his “soulmate.”
Gavin walked across the beach in Tulum, Mexico first. Instead of telling Leroux she loved him, Gavin took a different approach.
She said, “You’re phenomenal and you’re great, but there are so many things that don’t work with us. You are not my person. What I wish for you is that you are so happy and that you find a love that is so great, but I know I’m not that person for you either.”

Leroux responded saying, “I came here today to tell you how strong my feelings are for you and how amazing you are, but there’s just too many challenges with us and I think that if we met in a different time we would be perfect for each other, but I don’t think this is that time.”
The pair wished each other good luck and no hug was exchanged. Gavin left with only a few tears shed.
When Wightman showed up, she and Leroux immediately hugged and held hands.
“I apologize for yesterday,” Leroux said, “but you amaze me, you’ve always amazed me. I think that if we give this a chance in the real world we’ll have the best relationship ever. And I do love you. I’ve known that for a while.”

Wightman said that despite the challenges of the past week, “I don’t for one second want to give up on you. I love you and I want to do what it takes to make it work.”
Instead of taking out the engagement ring, Leroux left it in his pocket.
He said, “although I can’t envision my life without you I want to be engaged to you when we think it’s right.”
Wightman agreed and then Leroux gave her the final rose, as each said “I love you” once again.

During After the Final Rose special, Gavin was first in the hot set with host Noah Cappe. She said that, in the end, she didn’t feel chosen and loved by Leroux but she’d go through the experience again given the chance.
“Any opportunity to fall in love, if it doesn’t work that part sucks, but falling in love is the best part of life,” Gavin said.
Leroux joined Gavin on stage and said that “if things were sort of different — and we all know what my concerns were — we could have been magic together and it’s just too bad that those problems existed.”
While Gavin said it’s fair that Leroux had a change of heart about moving to Vancouver, she said it was different than what they had discussed about their future.
“I’m allowed to switch gears,” Leroux said in his defence. Gavin responded, “Yeah, so did I.”
When Wightman joined the stage, she and Leroux hugged and she asked him how he was.
“How are things with the two of you?” Cappe asked.
“Is Mikaela still in my life? Yes. But are we romantic with each other? No,” Leroux revealed. “I just wasn’t ready to give my heart to somebody fully. I don’t want to do that until I’m ready.”
The audience wasn’t given any other explanation other than Wightman saying Leroux couldn’t give her “what I needed at this time.”

Wightman took to Instagram after the show’s finale to post a photo of herself and Leroux hugging.
“What a night. No words today so calling on my girl @jessiereyez to speak today and I’ll speak tomorrow,” Wightman captioned the photo, followed by the lyrics from Jessie Reyez’s Figures.
Her caption continued, “Figures. I gave you ride or die and you gave me games. Love figures, I know I’m crying ’cause you just won’t change.”
