The busiest days of the year are just around the corner for Winnipeg’s international airport.
Airport Authority spokesperson Tyler MacAfee said if you’re travelling this holiday season, it’s a good idea to give yourself a bit of extra time pre-flight.
“We’re expecting actually to see a peak after Christmas – Dec. 27 and 28 will definitely be busy days at the airport,” MacAfee said.

“It’s always a good thing to get to the airport early,” he continued. “The security lines are always a little bit longer this time of year.”
MacAfee also reminds travellers not to wrap any gifts in carry-on baggage before going through security in case their bags need to be opened and examined pre-flight. But luckily he’s got a solution in case anyone needs to hand off a parcel immediately after disembarking.
“Once you’ve gone through the security process, we actually have a gift wrapping station set up there,” MacAfee said.
“You’re not going to fly with wrapping paper and everything else, so we’ve got something set up there that you can wrap your gift there and then you can get it to where it needs to go wrapped and ready to go.”
