File / Global News

WINNIPEG – With more than 20 impending free agents, it’s going to be a busy off-season for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The team though is off to a good start, re-signing safety Derek Jones on Monday.

The Canadian is the third player the Bombers have locked up to a new contract. Winnipeg inked offensive lineman Jermarcus Hardrick and Patrick Neufeld last week.

Jones, 25, agreed to a two-year contract extension. He’s appeared in every game the last four seasons for the Bombers, getting used mainly as a backup and special teams player. Jones had 11 special teams tackles last season as well as a sack and eight defensive tackles.

The Bombers selected Jones in the fourth round of the 2014 CFL Draft.
