Brandon police are reminding people to not drink and drive after an early morning crash in that city’s west end.
Officers were called to the 2700 block of Park Avenue after a car hit a tree around 3:15 a.m. Friday.
Someone in the area spotted the driver running away from the car. Officers found him around five minutes later hiding in a ditch a few blocks away on Willowdale Crescent.
“He thought he would hide and evade police,” Sgt. Dave Andrew, with the Brandon Police Service said.

Sgt. Andrew said this crash could have been a lot worse.
“There was extensive damage to the font end and certainly this could have had a much more significant ending and the individual is very very fortunate,” he said.
A 22-year-old Brandon man is facing two impaired driving charges and has a court date later this month.
“Especially as we head in to the holiday season people like to gather and socialize,” Sgt. Andrew said. “This is a reminder to plan ahead take a taxi and don’t drink and drive.”
